What Are Washington’s Strengths?

Washington is a high level athlete who plays above the rim. He scores in transition really well with his combination of size and athleticism.

The Murfreesboro native is also a solid three-point shooter. It’s an area he needs to continue to grow in but he does have it in his game.

At 6-foot-9, 195 pounds, Washington has a extremely high ceiling as a basketball player with his traits. He still has a lot of room to grow, but it’s easy to see how he could develop into a All-SEC caliber player by the time he is an upperclassmen.

How Will Tennessee Use Washington?

Washington will come in and compete for playing time as a freshman. It is very unlikely that he will start in his debut college season.

While Washington mostly played on the perimeter in high school, his size makes it possible for him to play as a stretch four-man in the college ranks. The four-spot is one where Tennessee is a bit thin at right now. There will be an opportunity for Washington to earn a role there as a freshman.

Questions About Washington’s Game

Washington is not a very polished offensive player at this point in his career. How well he can fare in catch-and-shoot opportunities will largely impact what type of impact he can make in the half court as a freshman.

Perhaps the determining factor to how Washington will contribute as a freshman is how bought in of a defender he is. Tennessee is building a more offense first roster next season but there will still be roles for strong defenders.

Washington has all the tools to be a strong defender with his athleticism and size. How much he buys in and commits to that as a freshman is to be determined.

What Does Washington’s Commitment Mean For Tennessee

Washington is Tennessee’s fourth high school commit joining Marquis Clark, Manny Green and Ralph Scott.

The instate prospect’s commitment gives Tennessee two incoming players who are capable of playing both the three and the four-spot. The Vols also have three other players capable of playing the three-spot. Tennessee will continue to pursue transfer guard Juke Harris but is filling up on wing scorers.

The Vols now have three scholarships available as they fill out their roster for next season. If Nate Ament declares for the NBA Draft then they will have another scholarship available.
