Lady Vols basketball added a piece to its 2026-27 roster on Friday by landing the commitment of international class of 2026 recruit Irene Oboavwoduo. From Manchester, United Kingdom, she joins with the potential to make an immediate impact on the team.
Formerly signed to Boston College, Oboavwoduo was released from her signing due to the parting of ways with head coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee. However, before she reopened her recruitment, Bernabei-McNamee released a statement that sums up Oboavwoduo’s game pretty well.
“Irene is a long, versatile wing with a natural feel for the game,” Bernabei-McNamee said about Oboavwoduo at the time of her signing. “She plays with a maturity beyond her years, has a smooth mid-range game, and is a relentless rebounder. Her instincts, pace, and unselfishness make her a great fit for our system. We’re thrilled to welcome Irene to The Heights. She embodies the drive and integrity we value at Boston College.”
When watching her highlights, Oboavwoduo’s natural abilities are quickly apparent. Along with the high motor she’s proven to have, you can see why Kim Caldwell and the Tennessee staff wanted to bring her in.
