Lady Vols basketball has added a piece to its front court with an extremely high ceiling. On Saturday night, Texas forward transfer Aaliyah Moore announced she has committed to Tennessee for her final season of eligibility and Kim Caldwell’s third on Rocky Top.
What are the Lady Vols getting in Moore? The first question will be about her injury status. She has dealt with a number of lower-body injuries throughout her career, and didn’t play at all this past season as she recovered. She should be ready to go heading into the offseason, but it will unfortunately always be something worth monitoring for her.
When she was healthy, Moore was a force for Texas, though. In her most recent fully healthy year, the 2023-24 campaign, she earned a spot on the All-Big 12 Second Team and Big 12 All-Tournament Team while appearing in 33 games and starting 19. She averaged 11.3 points and 6.1 rebounds on 52.9% shooting from the field and 28.6% from range.
Moore has some ability to stretch the floor, but the majority of her offensive game is in the paint. At 6-foot-1, she has a long list of post moves she can use to get to her spots and finish. She’s also a strong rebounder, something Tennessee will need given its glaring lack of height found in the portal so far.
