Tennessee football is in the hunt to land the commitment of multiple top-end running backs in the 2027 class. One of its targets, four-star Trey Martin, has narrowed his focus down to six schools, which includes the Vols.
Martin listed UT, Ole Miss, LSU, Alabama, Florida and Ohio State as the programs he has narrowed in on via Rivals. Five of the six options are in the SEC, with the Buckeyes the odd man out.
Martin is a four-star prospect on both 247 and Rivals. According to 247 Composite, he is the No. 198 recruit in the country, No. 12 running back and No. 7 player out of the state of Louisiana. On Rivals, he’s up to the No. 10 back in the cycle.
The 5-foot-10, 200-pound back is out of Winnsboro, Louisiana. He plays for Franklin Parish High School.

Martin is being primarily recruited by Tennessee running back coach De’Rail Sims. He has an official visit set up to see the Vols on May 21. He’ll see the remainder of his finalists afterward.
“Slashing runner with an impressive mix of speed and power,” 247 director of scouting Andrew Ivins wrote. “Looked like a future Power Four defensive back as a sophomore before racking up 1,587 yards of total offense and 31 touchdowns during junior campaign. Moves low to the ground and with impressive balance. Flashes elite gear-shifting capabilities in traffic. Quick to rev the throttle when he finds green grass. Thrashes through arm tackles and finishes forward.”
Currently, Tennessee holds seven commitments in the 2027 class. This features a trio of highly-touted four-stars. Headlining is in-state wide receiver, Kesean Bowman. He is a top-50 prospect and one of the top pass catchers in the class. In-state offensive tackle Princeton Uwaifo and defensive lineman Kadin Fife are also highly ranked.
Three-stars in the class are quarterback Derrick Baker, athlete Jaden Butler, in-state legacy linebacker JP Peace and defensive back Carter Jamison. Currently, this group is ranked inside the top-25 on both 247 and Rivals for the young 2027 cycle. More commitments are expected to roll in, as well.
