Tennessee softball is on to the Knoxville Regional finals. The Lady Vols defeated Virginia 7-5 on Saturday afternoon to secure their spot on Sunday. A pair of games to close out Saturday will decide UT’s opponent.
After the win over the Hoos, Tennessee head coach Karen Weekly, pitcher Sage Mardjetko and second baseman Emma Clarke met with the media. They were asked about Clarke’s home run, responding to UVA’s punches and more.
Mardjetko got the ball in the circle to start the game and went four full innings before handing the ball off to Karlyn Pickens. Mardjetko posted three earned runs on three hits, a hit batter and six strikeouts. Clarke went 2-for-2 at the plate with a walk, two runs, an RBI and a home run.
Virginia also sent representatives to the podium to field questions. That featured head coach Joanna Hardin, pitcher Taylor Smith and first baseman Macee Eaton. Smith pitched the final 5.2 innings of the game and Eaton hit a three-run home run off Sage Mardjetko.
