Tennessee softball is off to a strong start in the 2026 Women’s College World Series. The Lady Vols downed Texas 6-3 on Thursday to stay in the winner’s bracket in the two-loss elimination tournament.

After the game, UT head coach Karen Weekly and players Elsa Morrison and Sage Mardjetko met with the media to give their thoughts on what transpired.

Morrison, a freshman catcher and Knoxville native, had a great day at the plate. She finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run thanks to a big three-run homer in the second inning and a standup double later in the game. Mardjetko got the ball to start and pitched four frames while allowing no runs and just one hit.

“Great game against a great opponent,” Weekly said. “Texas is as good a team as is out there. I’m really proud of our team. I’m really proud of how we came out with a really good balance of being excited to be here and calm. I thought because of that we just played with a lot of joy, played with a lot of heart, played with a lot of passion.”
