Dalton Knecht spent one year in Knoxville during the 2023-2024 basketball season and immediately left his mark on the Tennessee program. While helping lead the Vols to the first of three consecutive Elite Eight showings, Knecht racked up several awards and accolades, including the AP SEC Newcomer of the Year, Transfer of the Year (ESPN, CBS, Field of 68, NCAA), the unanimous SEC Player of the Year, a First Team All-American (ESPN, AP, NABC, Sporting News, USBWA), a First Team All-SEC selection, and a Wooden Award finalist.
During his lone season in Knoxville, Knecht averaged 21.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game.
Knecht parlayed his collegiate success into the 17th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. While things have been a bit tumultuous during his first two years in Los Angeles, Knecht’s game still packs a punch. Some fans online have been calling for L.A. to part ways with the former Tennessee star so that he can get a fresh start on a new team while still just 25 years old.
During his sophomore season in the NBA, Knecht averaged 4.2 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 0.4 assists for the Lakers.
