Saturday marks the first official day of the summer. It also marks a good time to take a quick look at Tennessee Football’s full 2027 recruiting class after a big stretch in the middle of June.
The Vols’ ’27 class has grown significantly over the last two weekends. Tennessee has hauled in six total new commitments, with three four-star players, two three-star players, and one JUCO player. Two of those players have even been flipped over from different schools, with Kenneth Simon II coming from Alabama and Dayon Cooper coming from Florida State.
The six new commitments put Tennessee at 16 total commits through this point in the cycle. The Vols have eight players from the state of Tennessee, four from Georgia, and one from each of Colorado, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Virginia.
Tennessee’s class ranks 30th in the nation and 11th in the SEC on Rivals. On 247Sports, meanwhile, the Vols are ranked 42nd in the nation and 12th in the SEC. There are a few big differences in why there’s so much separation between the two sites.
One difference between the two sites is that Rivals has defensive line commit Kadin Fife as a four-star prospect, while 247 has him as a three-star prospect. That being said, both sites have Tennessee with nine three-star commitments. 247Sports actually has Tennessee with one more commitment than Rivals, counting unranked kicker Ford Fehling in the mix for 16 commitments. Rivals has Tennessee with 15 total commits. For the following comments, we’re going to be evaluating Tennessee’s class with Fehling in the mix.
Tennessee’s class is fairly balanced, with a slight lean towards the defense at this stage. The Vols have six offensive commits, eight defensive commits, and two special teams commits. Tennessee’s Top 5 recruits on both publications have three offensive players and two defensive players.
Tennessee’s class obviously isn’t done yet, and the Vols still have some big fish they’re making a swing at. The one that’s garnered the most attention online is elite in-state running back David Gabriel Georges, who is tagged as the No. 2 running back in the class. The Vols appear to be in a tight battle with Ohio State for the five-star prospect, though he also took a recent visit to Ole Miss.
