Instate forward Davis Cochran released his top eight including Tennessee basketball on Thursday morning, Rivals’ Joe Tipton first reported. The Vols joined Clemson, Cincinnati, Kansas State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Virginia and Vanderbilt in Cochran’s top group.
Cochran ranks as a three-star recruit and the No. 154 player in the 2027 recruiting cycle according to the 247sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-9, 220-pound recruit also ranks as the No. 24 power forward in the country and the No. 3 overall prospect in the state of Tennessee.
Rivals ranks Cochran as the No. 146 player and No. 22 power forward nationally as well as the No. 2 player in the Volunteer State.
Cochran is a standout at Brentwood High School where he helped lead the Bruins to a 30-4 record and the seventh state tournament appearance in program history. Brentwood dropped its state tournament opener to eventual champion Bartlett.

The three-star forward took an official visit to Cincinnati and an unofficial visit to Vanderbilt earlier this summer. He has an official visit scheduled to Kansas State where former Belmont head coach Casey Alexander is entering his first season as head coach. Tennessee officially offered Cochran last month.
Tennessee has just one official visit scheduled for this fall to date and it’s with another Middle Tennessee native. Five-star wing Malachi Jordan plans on officially visiting the Vols on Sept. 26— the same weekend that the football team hosts Texas at Neyland Stadium.
Tennessee basketball does not have a commit yet in its 2027 recruiting class. The Vols hosted a handful of 2027 prospects on unofficial visits last fall including four-star shooting guard RJ Moore and four-star shooting guard Chase Lumpkin. Rick Barnes and his staff also has interest in five-star Marcus Spears Jr and a number of other recruits.
The Vols have four seniors on their roster for this upcoming season so will have at least four scholarships available. However, that number will almost certainly increase with potential NBA Draft prospects and other players potentially entering the transfer portal.
