The Philadelphia Phillies selected Tennessee right-handed pitcher Bo Rhudy with the No. 219 overall pick (seventh round) of the MLB Draft on Sunday afternoon.
Rhudy spent just one season at Tennessee where he was a key piece of the Vols’ bullpen. The Kennesaw State transfer posted a 1-1 record, 3.38 ERA and 0.88 WHIP in 32 innings pitched over the course of the 2026 season.
As Tennessee struggled to find reliable bullpen pieces beyond Cam Appenzeller and Brandon Arvidson last season, Rhudy became one of the Vols’ most used pitchers during SEC play. Rhudy made a team-high 13 appearances in SEC play, posting a 4.76 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in 17 innings pitched.
While Rhudy’s fastball does not light up the radar gun, it does have late life that makes it difficult to hit. Tennessee was heavy on left-handed arms last season, making Rhudy all the more valuable for a Volunteer team desperate for out getters.

A Georgia native, Rhudy was at his best down the stretch of his junior season. He made two total postseason appearances including 1.2 shutout innings in the Vols’ SEC Tournament loss against Arkansas. Rhudy allowed one earned run and struck out four batters in four innings pitched in Tennessee’s 14-inning NCAA Tournament loss against East Carolina.
Rhudy is the third Tennessee player off the board in the 2026 draft. The St. Louis Cardinals selected right-handed pitcher Tegan Kuhns late in the first round of the draft. Tennessee’s Garrett Wright and Brandon Arvidson also project as draft picks.
A handful of Tennessee high school signees have been selected including two-way Trent Grindlinger, outfielder Trevor Condon, right-handed pitcher Kaiden McCarthy and right-handed pitcher Ty Putnam.
