Five Tennessee Players Were Drafted
Henry Ford was the first Tennessee player off the board on Sunday with the Seattle Mariners selecting him in the sixth round of the draft.
Right-handed pitcher Bo Rhudy was the next Vol drafted with Philadelphia selecting him in the seventh round. The Los Angeles Angels selected utility man Garrett Wright in the eighth round.
Left-handed pitchers Brandon Arvidson and Evan Blanco were the last Tennessee players to be drafted. The Chicago Cubs selected Arvidson in the 12th round and the Las Vegas Athletics selected Blanco in the 13th round.
None of the five Tennessee players drafted on Sunday began their careers in Knoxville. Blanco, Rhudy and Wright all transferred to Tennessee ahead of the 2026 season while Arvidson transferred in ahead of the 2025 season.
Two Tennessee High School Signees Were Drafted
The second draft of the draft began with the Colorado Rockies selecting Vol right-handed pitcher signee Ty Putnam. He was one of two Tennessee prep prospects selected. The Arizona Diamondbacks selected first baseman Cody Boshell in the 11th round.
Perfect Game ranks Putnam as the No. 92 player and Boshell as the No. 124 player in the 2026 recruiting cycle.
The duo join Jared Grindlinger, Trevor Condon and Kaiden McCarthy as the five Tennessee high school signees selected in the draft.
Which Prep Draft Risks Went Unselected?
A number of players in Tennessee’s highly touted 2026 recruiting class were draft risks. So which signees that could have gone pro are now going to college?
Multiple players announced or shared that they were going to school over the course of the second day of the draft. That group included catcher Sean Dunlap, two-way Cole Koeninger*, first baseman/outfielder AJ Curry*, right-handed pitcher Gannon Grant, right-handed pitcher Shawn Sullivan and right-handed pitcher Gary Morse. Oak Ridge third baseman announced on Saturday night that he would enroll at Tennessee in the fall.
Shortstop/outfielder Jaxson Wood and shortstop Jack Dugan were both draft risks who went unselected.
*Player did not announce publicly or confirm to RTI but both Volquest’s Mike Wilson and GoVols247’s Ben McKee reported their decisions.
What About Tennessee’s Transfer Commits?
It was a bit of a mixed bag for Tennessee’s transfer commits Sunday. The Toronto Blue Jays selected South Carolina LHP Jake McCoy in the 18th round while the Pittsburgh Pirates selected Andrew Duncan in the 19th round.
Projections had McCoy going much earlier in the draft so Toronto will have to step up to sign him and sway him away from enrolling at Tennessee next season. The left-handed pitcher is coming off Tommy John surgery and could improve his draft stock with a big 2026 season in Knoxville.
Duncan could be more willing to sign after playing one season at Florida State, one season at Tallahassee State College and one season at Wright State.
Other Tennessee transfer commits who were draft risks, including UC Irvine left-handed pitcher Ricky Ojeda and Baylor infielder Travis Sanders, went undrafted.
