We already had a date, but now we’ve got a time and a place.
According to a social media post on Monday afternoon, elite five-star running back David Gabriel Georges is set to announce his commitment live on the 247Sports’ YouTube page and CBS Sports HQ at 5:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, July 22.
The Chattanooga prospect will decide between Ohio State, Tennessee, and Ole Miss.
Gabriel Georges has been one of the most high-profile recruitments across the sport this offseason. The elite prospect has become a consensus five-star prospect this month and is ranked as a Top 25 player in the class across all three major publications.
According to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings, Gabriel Georges ranks as the No. 10 player in the class, the No. 2 running back in the cycle, and the No. 1 player from the Volunteer State.
“Hard-driving running back with the quickness and power to emerge as the centerpiece of an offense for a College Football Playoff contender,” 247’s Andrew Ivins writes in an evaluation. “Already owns ready-to-play bulk as he tips the scales at just over 205 pounds and uses that weight to his advantage as he sheds tackles and bounces off contact. Quick out the chute with his acceleration as he picks a lane and motors forward. Reads blocks well, but can change course in the snap of a finger and get out of trouble.”
While Gabriel Georges has taken an official visit to each of his finalists, the belief is that Tennessee and Ohio State are standing out more than Ole Miss in the final two weeks. It appears most likely that the decision is between Tennessee and Ohio State.

The Buckeyes garnered significant momentum early in the recruiting process, which led to three of Rivals’ analysts dropping predictions for Ohio State in April and early June. The Vols then cut into that momentum with a reported ultra-impressive visit in Knoxville on June 5, but it wasn’t enough to change any of those predictions quite yet.
Last week, Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong, who tagged DGG to the Buckeyes back in April, explained his position on the prediction meter.
“I’ve had a long-standing pick of Ohio State,” Wiltfong said last Thursday. “I could easily see him at Tennessee. I just haven’t been able to flip that pick because I think that Ohio State still had a lot to say in this recruitment, and I think that David Gabriel Georges could really see himself thriving at Ohio State.”
Gabriel Georges spoke on the situation himself with On3’s Chris Low over the weekend.
“It’s hard. You feel this way, like you know, and then it’s sort of 50-50,” Gabriel Georges said. “People will say the 22nd of July is far off, but honestly for me, it’s pretty close.”
Tennessee Football has produced three straight 1,000-yard rushers under head coach Josh Heupel. Jaylen Wright ran for 1,013 yards in 2023, Dylan Sampson broke UT records with 1,491 yards in 2024, and former walk-on running back DeSean Bishop reached 1,076 yards this past season. Bishop returns to the Vols this season and will have a chance to build on his breakout campaign in 2025.
“Both programs I think feel great about where they stand because of what they have to offer,” Wiltfong said last week. “And for Tennessee, immediate starting job, number zero, a chance to be a legend is what his uncle highlighted this week in my conversation with him. Someone that could help bring Tennessee back to the forefront of college football and how special that would be, how a legacy like that would be remembered in Knoxville, alongside guys like Peyton Manning, it would be pretty special. And the relationship with Coach Heupel and the rest of the staff is second-to-none, and having relationships with players on the team, guys from Canada, it’s exciting.”
