Status: The Vols were a little slower in offering Pope, waiting until June of 2015 to officially jump in and give the offer, but once they did, Pope expressed a lot of excitement and it vaulted Tennessee to right near the top of his list.

He committed over the summer and stayed that way all year before signing with the Vols on National Signing Day.

 How He Fits

Looking for depth at the tight end position in the 2016 class, the Vols added local product Austin Pope over the summer to come in with Devante Brooks.

Pope played all over the field at Christian Academy of Knoxville – defensive end, tight end, wide receiver and more. He’s the more polished route runner of UT’s new tight ends and with just one experienced tight end on the roster returning in 2016 in Ethan Wolf, Pope could have a chance to get in the mix early.
