Cecil Cherry picked up numerous offers from some of the nation’s top programs after his sophomore year. He committed to Tennessee on June 14th, 2013, and he has maintained a low recruiting profile after his pledge to play for Butch Jones. Cherry decommitted from Tennessee in early November after a visit to Texas and later named the Longhorns as the leader for his services.

 How He Fits

Cherry doesn’t just hit people, he violently separates them from the earth. He’s an explosive hitter with laser beam focus once he identifies his target. He boasts a powerful frame, plays bigger than his measurables, and has plus speed for a player of his size. Cherry excels at shedding blocks and recognizes plays quickly. He’s a force in the middle of the field who also is disruptive behind the line. At this stage he’s better in pursuit than in coverage and projects as a situational run-stopper. Tennessee has to replace A.J. Johnson in 2015. That’s no easy task but Cherry will have an opportunity to step in and earn early playing time at middle linebacker.
