Jones originally committed to Florida in June after an unofficial visit to Gainesville, but the recent firing of Will Muschamp and subsequent hiring of Jim McElwain caused Jones to decommit from Florida. He recently named Tennessee as his leader and will likely be taking a visit to Knoxville in the coming months. Update: Jones committed to the Vols on Jan. 8 and signed without drama on National Signing Day.

The Vols probably thought they were done at quarterback with Quinten Dormady and Jauan Jennings already committed, but the news that Jones now has Tennessee at the top of his list may change their minds a little bit. With Jennings possibly having a higher ceiling at another position, bringing in Jones would give the Vols a much better shot of finding the quarterback of the future in this class.
Jones is a heady player with plenty of athletic ability to escape the pocket and make plays down the field with his feet. He’s already to the point where he knows how to manipulate safeties with his eyes before zeroing in on his target and delivering the football – a sign of an advanced quarterback for his age. He isn’t afraid to hang in the pocket and deliver passes under pressure when necessary, but also has enough awareness to elude pressure while keeping his eyes focused downfield. He doesn’t have the strongest arm, but he has good footwork and a nice release which make him very accurate with the football. He’s an Elite-11 quarterback with tons of upside in a system such as the one Tennessee runs.
