The Vols were forced to open up the playbook more and earlier without bruising running back Jalen Hurd in the mix, and that resulted in Tennessee gaining 684 yards of total offense. But there were moments when Tennessee’s offense needed a first down or a bigger play and the offensive staff drew up the wrong play call. But it’s hard to knock the offense when they pile up nearly 700 yards of total offense. The defense’s ineffectiveness spoke more to injuries than scheme, but there were times where the play-calling was suspect there too.
