Takeaways From Vols at the NFL Combine

WR Josh Malone
6-3, 208 pounds

40-yard dash: 4.40 seconds
Vertical leap: 30.5 inches

Broad jump: 121 inches
3-cone drill: 7.05 seconds
20-yard shuttle: 4.19 seconds
60-yard shuttle: 11.77 seconds
Bench reps: 10

Malone turned some heads in Indy, posting the fastest time of any former Vol since Robert Meachem (2007) and the third-fastest time among all wide receivers this year. While it got a bit overshadowed by the astounding 4.22 time posted by Washington’s John Ross, Malone’s 4.40 was nothing to scoff at. His other numbers were decent, though not spectacular, and some questions remain about why he wasn’t more productive all three years for Tennessee. But that 4.4 time, combined with his strong junior campaign, should be enough to solidify him as a pick somewhere in the middle of the draft – possibly as early as Day 2.

Updated draft projection: Middle rounds
