The Vols made it out onto Neyland Stadium for the first time in the 2017 season for a regular season game, and they came out decked out in their traditional orange and white attire.

The temperature was a perfect 79 degrees during warm-ups, but the wind was whipping around on the field as well.

Here are our pre-game notes from the Vols’ home opener against Indiana State.

Held Out:

Wide receiver Tyler Byrd, offensive lineman Marcus Tatum, wide receiver Jauan Jennings, and linebacker Austin Smith were not dressed out during pre-game warm-ups. Latrell Williams was also out.

Kick returner Evan Berry, defensive tackle Shy Tuttle, wide receiver Josh Smith, and safety Todd Kelly Jr. were dressed out in pre-game warm-ups, however.

Starters

Jonathan Kongbo, Kahlil McKenzie, Kendal Vickers, and Darrell Taylor lined up with the first team defensive line during warm-ups.

Marquez Callaway got the start at receiver, and John Kelly earned the start at running back.

Drew Richmond was back in the starting lineup after missing the opening game of the season due to suspension.

  1. Geez. Even against the mighty Sycamores the defensive line is non-existent. We need to stop feeding them until they start playing.

  2. Vols have no clue to stopping an end sweep. Does TN even have a DLine?
