How Guarantano’s First Start Compares to Other Vol QBs

A.J. Suggs

A.J. Suggs was named Tennessee’s co-starter to begin the 2000 season, but he and Joey Matthews would eventually give way to freshman Casey Clausen.

Suggs split time with Matthews for the first part of the season, and his first ever start as a Vol was rather lackluster. Suggs helped the Vols defeat Southern Miss 19-16 on September 2nd, 2000 to begin the season. He completed just four of his nine passes for 75 yards and a touchdown.

Suggs would eventually transfer to Georgia Tech after the season.
