Expectations for the Vols’ 2018 Signing Class

Offensive Line

Jerome Carvin

Star Rating: 4 stars
Overall Ranking: 375
Position Rating: 26

2018 Outlook:

Carvin is clearly the most game ready out of the three freshman lineman in the 2018 class. He’s going to be a very solid lineman in the upcoming seasons. This season, however, I think his ceiling is 7th or 8th lineman. Assuming he’s not redshirted, he’ll probably get to play in some blowouts. There is a very slim chance he works his way into the rotation barring another season full of injuries.

Jahmir Johnson

Star Rating: 3 star
Overall Ranking: 22 (JUCO)
Position Ranking: 6 (JUCO)

2018 Outlook:

Jahmir Johnson has a very important offseason coming up. First things first, he needs to put some weight on. There is definitely an opportunity for him to start next year. Trey Smith, Chance Hall and Drew Richmond should all start but the other two spots are up for grabs. Johnson will be competing with three to four other guys for those spots, and I think he will earn one of them. I see Johnson as a starter in his first year with the Vols as long as he can bulk up.

Ollie Lane

Star Rating: 3 stars
Overall Ranking: 891
Position Ranking: 34

2018 Outlook:

Ollie Lane, like nearly every freshman lineman, is not yet ready to play in the SEC. That’s not anything against him; lineman is just a position that takes longer to develop. Trey Smith is just a once in a decade talent. Lane will dress out and will be ready for insurance purposes, but I’m sure the coaching staff would like to be able to redshirt him, if given the opportunity.

Tanner Antonutti

Star Rating: 3 stars
Overall Ranking: 768
Position Ranking 58

2018 Outlook:

He is another one of those guys that probably isn’t going to see the field this year. Right now, he is undersized and will have to get bigger before he can play in the SEC. He will be there for depth, but the coaching staff would like to be able to redshirt him this season.
