The Big Names

Jeff Walz

Head Coaching Record:

Louisville head coach (2007-present): 330-99

Pros:

If you’re looking for the hottest name tied to the Lady Vols’ position, then Jeff Walz is the first one you’re going to hear. He’s already been tied to the position per reports, and for good reason. In his 12 seasons as Louisville’s head coach, he’s transformed them into a legitimate power in women’s basketball. Before Walz took over, the Cardinals had never been to a Sweet Sixteen in women’s basketball; he got them there in his first season at the helm. He took them to the title game in his second season. All in all, he’s helped Louisville to two national title game appearances, three Final Fours, four Elite Eights, and nine Sweet Sixteens counting this season.

Cons:

Walz just received a contract extension last offseason, and he’s making over $1 million annually to head up the Louisville women’s basketball program. His buyout would likely be gigantic, and it’s unclear if UT is willing to spend a boatload of money to bring in a new head coach when they already likely have to pay Holly Warlick a buyout.

  1. She is a good coach. She did not have a good many players who could make enough shots against good teams. Possibly rebounding could have been stronger. Making the shots was the deal. Coach couldn’t shoot em in herself. Of course there is defense and I didn’t see them play enough to comment.

UConn and Tennesee will revive their competition in the near future which will be a good thing raising rafters like the old days!

  2. I think the next Tennessee Vol Coach should be Kara Lawson or Candace Parker. GREAT ATHELETES!
