Wes Moore

Head Coaching Record:

Maryville College head coach (1987-93): 131-36
Francis Morgan head coach (1995-98): 69-20
Chattanooga head coach (1998-2013): 358-113
NC State head coach (2013-present): 139-56

Pros:

Local ties and success at a power program; that’s what Wes Moore brings to the table. Moore is the all-time winningest coach at Chattanooga fro their women’s basketball program, and he parlayed that success into the NC State head coaching position. He’s found success at the helm of the Wolfpack as well, taking them to the NCAA Tournament for three-straight seasons and getting them to the Sweet Sixteen in back-to-back years. NC State hadn’t been to the Sweet Sixteen since 2007 before last season. They’re playing for a chance for their first Elite Eight appearance since 1998 this week. Moore also isn’t making a ton of money at NC State, earning right around $500,000 annually.

Cons:

The biggest drawback for Moore is his age. He’s about to turn 62, so he may not be as long term of a solution as another candidate could be. But Tennessee’s men’s head coach, Rick Barnes, is 64 and doesn’t seem close to retiring any time soon, so Moore’s age doesn’t have to be a big issue. He’s also only had one major conference job, though what he did at UTC was certainly impressive.

  1. She is a good coach. She did not have a good many players who could make enough shots against good teams. Possibly rebounding could have been stronger. Making the shots was the deal. Coach couldn’t shoot em in herself. Of course there is defense and I didn’t see them play enough to comment.

UConn and Tennesee will revive their competition in the near future which will be a good thing raising rafters like the old days!

  2. I think the next Tennessee Vol Coach should be Kara Lawson or Candace Parker. GREAT ATHELETES!
