Kara Lawson

Pros:
Aside from the Candace Parkers or Chamique Holdsclaws in Lady Vol history, Kara Lawson is one of the best players to ever wear the orange, white, and blue. She was a star point guard for the Lady Vols from 1999-2003 and helped lead them to three Final Four appearances and two appearances in the national title game. She was selected with the fifth overall pick in the 2003 WNBA Draft and played for 13 seasons in the WNBA, winning a national title and being selected as an All-Star. Though she doesn’t have coaching experience, she’s stayed in the public eye as a broadcaster and remains connected to the University of Tennessee. She was named to the Board of Trustees at UT by Bill Haslam in 2018.
Cons:
Giving the Lady Vols job to a first-time coach — not just a first-time head coach — doesn’t seem like the right move to make. Lawson was a high quality player and does a great job as a broadcaster for ESPN, but she’s never coached at the collegiate level period.
