For the first time this year, a pair of Tennessee freshmen football players spoke with the media.
Typically at UT, head football coaches have a “no media policy” for true freshmen. There have been rare occasions when those bans have been lifted, such as back in 2014 when then-head coach Butch Jones allowed a lot of Tennessee’s “legacy” players from the 2014 signing class to speak to the media.
Last year, none of Tennessee’s freshmen were made available to speak with the media. This week, however, that changed.
Linebacker Henry To’oto’o and running back Eric Gray both met with the media on Tuesday to discuss their time as Vols so far, the beginning of UT’s 2019 season, and how they and the rest of the team are moving forward. Junior defensive lineman LaTrell Bumphus, senior wide receiver Marquez Callaway, and junior safety Theo Jackson also spoke to the gathered media.
