Vols are Finalists for 4-Star Athlete

One of the top athletes on the west coast released his list of finalists this week, and Tennessee was included along with several FBS powers.

Will Latu, a four-star athlete who plays for Bethel in Spanaway, Washington, put out a graphic on Twitter of his final 11 schools, and the Vols made the cut along with USC, Washington, Michigan, Nebraska, Utah, Colorado, Oregon State, Washington State, Kansas State, and Arizona State. Tennessee is the only SEC school included in Latu’s list.

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Latu is the No. 262 overall prospect, No. 17 athlete, and 6th-best recruit in the state of Washington in the 2021 class.

Tennessee offered Latu back in mid-November of 2018, becoming the first SEC team to offer him and the third Power Five school overall to extend him an offer. USC and Arizona State were the first two teams to offer Latu.

The 6-foot-2, 221-pound athlete spoke with Brandon Huffman of 247Sports about all 11 of his finalists, and the talented prospect said that Tennessee is in his final group despite not being able to make it over to Knoxville for a visit yet.

“Having a Tennessee offer is really cool,” Latu said. “I haven’t been down there so hopefully I can fit them in. I want to meet the coaches and the staff and see how it is over there.”

Latu does a little bit of everything on the field for Bethel. He plays on both sides of the ball and is a dynamic ball carrier on offense. It’s believed he’ll play defense in college, however, and he has the frame and athleticism to play either as a safety or linebacker effectively.

As a junior, Latu totaled 707 rushing yards and 14 scores on 120 carries to go along with 12 receptions for 214 yards and five touchdowns on offense while totaling nine tackles, a tackle for loss, a sack, an interception, and three passes defended on defense according to MaxPreps.

Tennessee currently has 18 commitments in their 2021 class, and the Vols’ class ranks No. 2 in the country and No. 1 in the SEC on 247Sports and Rivals.
