Louisiana Sports Betting Update

Online sports betting in Louisiana launched on Jan. 28, and the state has seen quite a bit of success since then.

In February — the first full month for online sports betting — the state received $2.2 million in tax revenue from sports betting. The total sports betting handle (total amount of sports betting wagers) in February was $211 million and was boosted by the typical flood of wagers on the Super Bowl.

Mobile sports betting operators must pay a tax rate of 15%, and 60% of the collected tax goes to the state general fund. Of that revenue, 25% goes to early education, 12% to the 55 parishes that voted to allow sports betting, and 2% to gambling addiction and responsible gambling programs.
