Dallas Cowboys Interview Former Vol at NFL Combine

2022 Top NFL Draft Prospects

Here on the first official day of the 2022 NFL Combine, former Tennessee offensive lineman Cade Mays has already begun interviews. According to a report from 105.3 The Fan’s Bobby Belt, the Dallas Cowboys and Mays completed a formal interview on Thursday.

Additionally, Belt followed up with an explanation regarding the difference between a formal interview and an informal interview.

“A reminder: formal interviews are more important than informal interviews,” Belt said in a tweet from Thursday. “Informal interviews are had with the majority of players. Formal interviews are much more in-depth, and teams are only allowed 45 at the combine.”

Bally Sports’ Luke Slabaugh had a similar report on Thursday but also spoke of the impression that the Cowboys had on Mays.

Based on the current information, it does sound like Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys did use one of their 45 formal interviews for former Tennessee lineman Cade Mays.

Tennessee currently has four representatives from the 2021 Vol football team at the combine. In addition to Mays, Tennessee also has defensive back Alontae Taylor, defensive lineman Matthew Butler, and wide receiver Velus Jones Jr.

Belt listed off some other players from the SEC that the Cowboys have spoken with, although, none of them were Tennessee players. Aside from Mays in the SEC, the Cowboys had a former interview with former Arkansas WR Treylon Burks and an informal interview with former Texas A&M tight end Jalen Wydermyer, according to Belt’s reporting.

Mays’ offensive linemen group will go through on-field activities on Friday with the running backs. Today, on Thursday, the quarterbacks, wide receivers, and tight ends will be at work. Therefore, Tennessee WR Velus Jones Jr will be on the field participating today. Matthew Butler will work out on Saturday with the defensive linemen and linebackers while Alontae Taylor will round things out on Sunday with the defensive backs.
