Tennessee WR Runs Impressive 40-Yard Dash At NFL Combine

Titans GM Jon Robinson Gets Emotional

Tennessee receiver Velus Jones Jr. is impressing at the NFL Scouting Combine, running an unofficial 4.34 40-yard dash in his first attempt and an unofficial 4.32 in his second attempt Thursday afternoon.

The 4.32 time ties Memphis receiver Calvin Austin III with the second best unofficial 40-yard dash time amongst receivers at the NFL combine. Baylor’s Tyquan Thornton led the way with a 4.28. Austin did not partake in his second attempt. Jones 4.34 is tied for the fourth best time amongst receivers.

The SEC Special Teams Player of the year has seen his stock soar in the past year. Jones had a career senior season, catching 62 passes for 807 yards and seven touchdowns. In his previous season at Tennessee and three seasons at USC, Jones combined for 58 catches, 627 yards and four touchdowns.

The Saraland, Alabama native started Josh Heupel’s inaugural season slow, but switched to slot receiver and hit the ground running in October. Jones totaled three 100 yard games.

The 6-foot, 200 pound receiver impressed at the Senior Bowl in February, leading his team in receiving in the game and burning his former teammate in practice.

Former Vols Alontae Taylor, Cade Mays and Matthew Butler are all taking part in this year’s combine.

The NFL Combine runs through Monday, March 7.
