Former All-SEC Linebacker, Tennessee Staffer Joining Knoxville Catholic Staff

Raiders Season Review: WR Davante Adams

Tennessee Director of Player Development Kevin Simon is leaving his alma mater to become the new linebackers coach and head of college scouting at Knoxville Catholic High School.

Simon was a two time All-SEC linebacker in Knoxville from 2001-05 after leaving the west coast to play his college ball in the southeast. The highly-touted recruit recorded 88 tackles in his senior season before Washington selected him in the seventh-round of the 2006 NFL Draft.

Simon got his coaching career started at Tennessee in 2007-08 as a graduate assistant before spending a decade in the NFL.

The now 38-year old spent seven years as a scout for the Dallas Cowboys and three years with the Atlanta Falcons before returning to his alma mater as the Director of Player Development — where he served as Tennessee’s liaison to NFL scouts — in 2018.

Jeremy Pruitt hired Simon in 2018 and the former Tennessee star stayed in the football program through the transition to head coach Josh Heupel.

Simon joins Korey Mobbs’ coaching staff at Knoxville Catholic. Mobbs is entering his second year as the Fighting Irish head coach. Mobbs previously served as the head coach at Georgia’s Lanier High School.
