Just a few days after announcing his final Top 3, class of 2023 cornerback Rickey Gibson has received a new prediction to land at Tennessee.
On Monday afternoon, 247 Sports Director of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong switched his crystal ball prediction for Gibson from Georgia to Tennessee. Wiltfong’s prediction is the first and only crystal ball prediction for Gibson so far.
According to On3 Sports’ Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Vols are the overwhelming favorite to land Gibson at 91.9 percent. Gibson is set to announce his collegiate commitment on Sunday, Aug. 14.

The Trussville, Alabama native is currently ranked as a four-star prospect according to On3 Sports’ consensus rankings. Additionally, Rickey Gibson is ranked by On3 consensus as the No. 43 cornerback prospect in the class and the No. 22 overall prospect from the state of Alabama.
On Aug. 5, Gibson announced a final top three of Penn State, Georgia, and Tennessee.
The Hewitt-Trussville High School defensive back has been to Knoxville three times in recent months, for unofficial visits back in April and May and an official back in June. Despite landing alongside Tennessee in Gibson’s top three, both Georgia and Penn State did not extend Rickey Gibson a scholarship offer until June 21 and June 24, respectively.
The Vols and head coach Josh Heupel already have 19 commitments to the class of 2023, headlined by five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava and four-star EDGE Chandavian Bradley. According to 247’s team rankings, the Vols sit just outside the Top 10 at No. 11.
