After losing one game each during the opening week of the 2022-2023 basketball season, the Tennessee men’s basketball team and the women’s basketball team have both dropped in the rankings.

Tennessee’s men’s team fell from No. 11 to No. 22 in the latest AP Rankings after a loss to Colorado in Nashville on Sunday. The Vols were defeated by a score of 78-66 as Tennessee struggled from the offensive side of the court.

The Vols are also the only team with one loss in the AP Top 25 rankings. Additionally, with a relatively quiet week all around, the Vols are the only team to drop more than one spot from the week-to-week rankings.

Tennessee now sits as the fifth highest-ranked team from the SEC, behind No. 4 Kentucky, No. 9 Arkansas, No. 13 Auburn, and No. 18 Alabama. The only other ranked team from the SEC is Texas A&M as the Aggies sit at No. 24 in the poll.

The Lady Vols, on the other hand, are also 1-1 to start the season after dropping their first game to then-No. 14 Ohio State in Columbus. Tennessee was able to bounce back in the next game, though, defeating UMass by a score of 74-65 in Knoxville.

The Lady Vols dropped from No. 5 to No. 11 after their 1-1 week one. Tennessee and Maryland are the only one-loss teams in the week two rankings, with the Terps coming in at No. 19 in the country.

The good news for Tennessee is that the Lady Vols are still the second-ranked team in the SEC behind No. 1 South Carolina. No. 15 LSU is the only other ranked women’s team from the Southeastern Conference.

The Lady Vols will be back on the court in Knoxville on Monday night as they host No. 12 Indiana at 6:00 p.m. ET.

The men’s team, meanwhile, will hit the Thompson-Boling Arena court this Wednesday evening for a matchup against Florida Gulf Coast at 7:00 p.m. ET.

The Vols come in at No. 22 in the week two AP Poll while the Lady Vols land at No. 11.
