Vols WR Cedric Tillman Declares for 2023 NFL Draft

Tennessee Football wide receiver Cedric Tillman has declared for the 2023 NFL Draft and will not play in the Orange Bowl, the Vols wideout announced on social media Monday evening.

Tillman ended his long announcement and Thank You with: “It’s an honor to be a VFL forever. Thank You.”

While Tillman technically has one year of eligibility remaining with his COVID year, it was a nearly a given that the Las Vegas native was NFL bound.

With Tillman not playing in the Orange Bowl, the Vols will turn to Jalin Hyatt, Bru McCoy, Ramel Keyton, Squirrel White and others in the receiving corps. There is a chance, however, that Hyatt will follow Tillman’s lead and forego the bowl game to focus on the NFL Draft process. The star junior said that he was “50/50” on his decision regarding his future on ESPN after winning the Biletnikoff Award.

Tillman will leave UT after back-to-back productive seasons. The Nevada product broke out during his redshirt junior season, tallying 1,081 yards and 12 touchdowns on 64 catches. After an excellent 2021 campaign, expectations were high for Tillman entering year two with Hendon Hooker and Josh Heupel.

The 6’3″, 215-pounder unfortunately suffered an ankle injury in Tennessee’s third game of the season that required tightrope surgery, limiting his impact throughout the season. Tillman ultimately played just six games this season, totaling 417 yards and three scores on 37 catches. Before his injury, the redshirt senior had a productive Week 1 before torching Pittsburgh to the tune of nine catches for 162 yards and a touchdown. Tillman had minimal impact upon return from his injury in sporadic appearances, accumulating over 50 yards receiving just once in Tennessee’s blowout loss to South Carolina.

Tillman received an to the Reese’s Senior Bowl in late November, but the wideout has not accepted the invite yet.
