Four-star linebacker and Tennessee target Arion Carter is announcing his college commitment Wednesday at 1 p.m. ET, Carter shared in a Tweet Tuesday.

The Volunteer State native climbed up recruiting rankings and boards this fall while turning in a dominant senior season at Smyrna High School. The 6-foot-1, 210 pound linebacker’s strong season was good enough to earn 6A Tennessee Mr. Football honors this season.

Carter ranks as the No. 190 player and No. 17 linebacker in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The star linebacker is also the third ranked player in the state of Tennessee coming in behind only Vol commit Caleb Herring and Notre Dame quarterback commit Kenny Minchey.

Carter was a longtime Memphis commit before backing off his commitment to the Tigers in mid November.

The Smyrna, Tennessee native took a visit to Ohio State the week before de-committing from Memphis but Carter’s recruitment appears to be down to the home state Vols and Alabama.

Carter visited Alabama three times during the season including twice while he was still a Memphis commit. The four-star linebacker also made it back to Tuscaloosa for an official visit this past weekend.

Last weekend’s visit to Alabama came a week after Carter took his official visit to Tennessee. Herring — a fellow Rutherford County native — took his official visit to Tennessee the same weekend. Carter also unofficially visited Tennessee for the Florida game in September.

Josh Heupel visited Carter at Smyrna High School Monday.

Tennessee’s 2023 recruiting class currently contains commitments from two linebacker: three-star Jalen Smith and three-star Jeremiah Telander.

The Vols’ 24 player recruiting class ranks as the nation’s 10th best according to the 247sports team rankings.
