NFL Saturday Betting Preview

The Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Giants are both major underdogs in their matchups, but that may not mean much this year. Here is a closer look at both of the NFL Playoff games to be played on Saturday, Jan. 21.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Kansas City Chiefs, 4:30 p.m. ET (NBC)

The Jags were not as big of underdogs last week as they are in this one, but they were behind by 27 points at one point in the game, against the LA Chargers and they found a way to win. The two teams met earlier this year during the Jags’ rough start to the season that resulted in a 27-17 victory for the Chiefs. However, the Jags ended the season 6-1 and were winners of five consecutive. Their wins included the Baltimore Ravens with Lamar Jackson, the Dallas Cowboys, and now the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Chiefs finished their season escaping bad teams and losing to the one competitive team they faced down the stretch. Trevor Lawrence led the comeback for the Jags last week to escape his turnover criticism, but he did throw four picks in the game. Considering it was his first playoff game and the first time all season he has thrown more than three, the likelihood of doing it again seems minimal.

If he does protect the ball, the Chiefs’ defense hasn’t shown it can stop quality QBs. We’re not going as far as saying Jags will pull off the upset, but we do believe taking the Jags to cover the Spread is a wager to consider here.

New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles, 8:15 p.m. ET (FOX)

The Eagles defeated the Giants twice this year, but the second victory wasn’t as impressive. Daniel Jones sat out for the Giants while Jalen Hurts returned for the Eagles and just got by the Giants. After Jones’ performance last week, the Giants look as good as they have all season.

Hurts missed two games before returning to finish the season against the Giants and had the first weekend of the playoffs off. Rust should be a concern for him, considering his second start since coming back is in the playoffs against a divisional foe. This game has all the makings of a trap game. As sexy as the Giants in an upset look with a +290 Moneyline, it’s the Total we’re advising you to keep an eye on.

When you account for rust with Hurts, Jones taking on a much more competitive defense, and this being the third matchup, 48 points seem high in this one.
