Where Tennessee Stands In Final Bracketology Updates

Selection Sunday is here and after Missouri knocked off Tennessee in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament the Vols now await their NCAA Tournament draw.

The big question is whether Tennessee will hang on the three-line after a rocky final month of the season or whether they will fall to a four-seed.

According to ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, Tennessee projects as a four-seed in the East Region of the NCAA Tournament. The Vols would face 13-seed Kent State in the first round before playing either five-seed Iowa State or 12-seed Charleston in the Round of 32.

ESPN’s bracket has Tennessee playing its first weekend in Greensboro, North Carolina which would give the Vols the home court advantage due to proximity.

The Vols are on of eight SEC teams in Lunardi’s field, joining No. 1 seed Alabama, No. 5 seed Texas A&M, No. 7 seed Kentucky, No. 7 seed Missouri, No. 8 seed Arkansas, No. 10 seed Auburn and No. 11 seed Mississippi State.

CBS’ Jerry Palm also projects Tennessee  as a four-seed in the East Region with a first round matchup against 13-seed Yale instead of Kent State in the first round. If the Vols got past Yale they would face either five-seed Virginia or 12-seed Oral Roberts in the Round of 32 in Greensboro.

Other top seeds in CBS’ Midwest Region include No. 1 Purdue, No. 2 Marquette and No. 3 Kansas State.

Tennessee is one of eight SEC teams in the bracket, joining No. 1 seed Alabama, No. 4 seed Texas A&M, No. 6 seed Missouri, No. 7 seed Kentucky, No. 8 seed Auburn, No. 8 seed Arkansas and No. 11 seed Mississippi State.

The Selection Show is at 6 p.m. ET Sunday on CBS.

  1. The Vols had a nice season, until Zeigler went down. It’s pretty clear now they have no one to run the offense. They may get a round one win, but I don’t see them going any farther than that. The one guy on the roster they have no replacement for, poor recruiting and preparation.
