The Vols are in the Sweet 16 for the seventh time this century and the first time since 2019 after winning their first two games in Orlando this weekend. Four-seed Tennessee survived a late game comeback from 14-seed Louisiana in the first round before outlasting popular Final Four pick Duke 65-62 in the Round of 32.

Olivier Nkamhoua was brilliant in the second half, scoring 23 of his game-high 27 points in the final 20 minutes. The senior power forward delivered huge basket after huge basket in the second half to go along with Santiago Vescovi’s 14 points on four made triples.

Florida Atlantic was one of the best mid major teams in the country this season and enters the matchup with just three losses on the season. The Owls used a late game comeback to beat Memphis 66-65 in the first round before defeating 16-seed Farleigh Dickinson in the Round of 32 Sunday night.

The tip-off time between Tennessee and Florida Atlantic is not set yet but will be sometime Thursday at Madison Square Garden.

Tennessee is one win away from advancing to the Elite Eight for the second time in program history and two wins away from the program’s first Final Four. If the Vols get past Florida Atlantic Thursday they’ll face either three-seed Kansas State or seven-seed Michigan State in the Elite Eight.

The Vols are making their second trip to the Big Apple this season. Tennessee knocked off Maryland 56-53 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn in December.
