A report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport on Monday afternoon stated that former Tennessee wide receiver Jalin Hyatt will be meeting with the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday.

The Cowboys do have their one pick per round in the 2023 NFL Draft, but will likely need to spend a first-rounder on Hyatt if they want to grab the speedy receiver without having to make any trades. The Cowboys have No. 26, No. 58, and No. 90 in the first three rounds.

“Jalin Hyatt, he’s really good, I just don’t understand the fit [in Dallas],” Cowboys beat reporter Bobby Belt said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Tuesday morning. “I don’t understand the fit here with what [the Cowboys] are trying to accomplish. Timing, short, quick – Jalin Hyatt is like Desean Jackson. That’s the receiver he is. He’s vertical, run right by you. He’s not the, ‘Alright, we’re going to run slants all day.’ He’s 175 pounds. That’s not going to be his game. He’s a really good player, I just don’t know about the fit here.”

If the Cowboys do want to take Hyatt at No. 26 without a trade, owner Jerry Jones will have to keep his eye on the New York Giants, first. The Giants, who have the No. 25 pick in the first round, have consistently been connected with Hyatt’s name this offseason with all the wide receiver troubles they had in 2022.

If the Giants wind up trading up in the draft for a receiver or a cornerback, it probably won’t be Hyatt and the Cowboys could be in the clear. However, if the Giants wind up sticking at No. 25 and a few good cornerbacks and receivers jump off the page already, Hyatt could be in the blue and red by the time the first night is over.

The latest mock draft from ESPN and former NFL GM Mike Tannenbaum projects Hyatt to land with the Giants in the first round of the 2023 draft.

Hyatt underwent a handful of different workouts during the Tennessee Pro Day this past Thursday afternoon in Knoxville. While he didn’t run the 40-yard dash again, Hyatt did go through some agility work with cone drills and ran routes alongside fellow Tennessee receiver Cedric Tillman. Both Hyatt and Tillman caught passes from UT Martin quarterback Dresser Wynn with Hendon Hooker still sidelined from that level and speed of competition after his surgery.

The 2023 NFL Draft will begin on Thursday, April 27, from Kansas City.
