During the fourth quarter of Tennessee football’s Orange and White game Saturday afternoon, freshman tight end suffered an apparent shoulder injury.

Davis had put together a very solid drive up to that point, making a couple of physical catches to get the Orange Team inside the 10-yard line.

Davis’ suffered a season-ending shoulder injury prior to his senior season in high school, but the freshman’s injury from Saturday’s game is of no relation, per Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel.

“It’s not realated to the high school injury,” Heupel said. “We’ll know here more on the backend of today.”

The Collins Hill high school product finished the spring game with three catches for 53 yards. Davis’ 53 yards were the most of any Tennessee pass catcher during the Orange and White game.

After Heupel touched on Davis’ injury status, he went on to praise the freshman’s performance.

“[It’s] similar to what we’ve seen from him,” Heupel said on Davis’ performance. “He’s been really good, played well. He understands space, how to get himself open, he plays long and physical to the catch. He’s done a nice job throughout spring ball.”

Davis has been slowly working his way back to full health from his injury he sustained in high school, as he has been in a red, non-contact jersey for the majority of spring practice. However, the Atlanta, Georgia, native was healthy enough to be a full-go for the spring game.

Davis was not worked into the offense until late in the first half, but he made his impact known. Arguably the best play of the day involved Davis, who caught a strike from freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava down the sideline for approximately 30 yards.

While Heupel did not have a specific update on Davis’ injury, Tennessee will know more soon. Additionally, Davis will have the whole summer to get back to full health ahead of fall camp.
