Southern Miss leads the Vols 4-0 with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning. Tennessee has a runner on first as it looks for its first run of the weekend.
The Vols and Golden Eagles twice went into a weather delay Saturday. The first was an hour, 35 minute delay in the bottom of the fourth inning. The two teams resumed for 13 minutes and recorded five outs before lightning struck and they went back into a delay.
The Golden Eagles scored two runs in the first inning via a Tate Parker two-out, two-RBI triple before adding a run in the third and fourth inning via solo home runs from Dustin Dickerson and Nick Monistere respectively.
Golden Eagles’ starter Billy Oldham was fantastic before the delay, retiring the first 10 batters he faced before the Vols got two baserunners in the fourth inning and another in the fifth.
The winner of the Hattiesburg Super Regional will advance to the College World Series in Omaha. Tennessee is looking for its first trip to the College World Series since 2021 and Southern Miss is looking for its first trip to Omaha since 2009.
