The Tennessee Volunteers will offer a Spanish-language audio broadcast of this Saturday’s game against UTSA in Knoxville for the first time in the history of the Vols’ Athletics Department.

The move, announced early in the week from Tennessee Athletics, is being done to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15 to October 15.

The broadcast will feature internet sensation and WBIR Spanish anchor Carlos Lopez alongside former Tennessee Volunteer Fuad Reveiz. Lopez and Reveiz’s call of the game can be heard on the Tennessee Athletics App and UTsports.com starting at 4:00 p.m. ET on gameday.

“This unique opportunity to continue to grow our fan base is exciting,” Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Danny White said in a press release. “We have explored various models to increase Spanish broadcasts across several of our sports in future years and felt this will be a great test run to start the process and expand our Vol Nation footprint.”

Lopez burst on the scene during the 2022 season with social media clips of himself providing play-by-play action for some of the Vols’ top plays of the week. Tennessee fans and sports fans alike quickly grew fond of Lopez’s energetic personality and signature catchphrases such as “Vamos Vols” and “Dale Seis” in his videos.

The Venezuelan native is no stranger to the sport of football, either. After moving to the United States at age 11, Lopez received a scholarship to be a kicker at Carson-Newman and eventually finished out his career at Middle Tennessee State University.

Reveiz, on the other hand, is certainly familiar with football at the University of Tennessee. The Bogota, Columbia, native was Tennessee’s starting placekicker from 1981 to 1984 and still continues to hold the school record for field goals attempted (95) and field goals made (71) in his career. Additionally, Reveiz was given All-SEC honors after the 1982 season.

The longest field goal in Tennessee history was kicked by the foot of Fuad Reveiz as he sent a 60-yard bomb through the uprights against Georgia Tech in 1982.

Reveiz went on to have an 11-year NFL career with the Miami Dolphins, the San Diego Chargers, and the Minnesota Vikings. The former Volunteer has also been a Spanish-language commentator for the NFL and will bring plenty of experience to the booth with him.
