VFLs in NFL Week 6: Kamara and Palmer’s Heavy Involvement Leads the Way

Week 6 of the NFL season has officially concluded.

Thirty former Vols are on rosters this NFL season, representing 20 different teams. Twenty saw action in Week 6.

See how each VFL fared in this past weekend’s action below.

S Micah Abernathy – Atlanta Falcons

On the practice squad.

DE Derek Barnett – Philadelphia Eagles

Recorded one tackle as a reserve defensive end in Philadelphia’s 20-14 loss to the Jets. He played 20 percent of defensive snaps and 32 percent of special teams snaps.

DT Matthew Butler – Las Vegas Raiders

On the practice squad.

WR Marquez Callaway – Las Vegas Raiders

On the practice squad.

LS Morgan Cox – Tennessee Titans

Snapped for three field goals and one extra point, all of which were successful, and five punts.

QB Joshua Dobbs – Arizona Cardinals

Dobbs struggled in his sixth start of the season against the Rams. The VFL QB completed 21 of 41 passes for 235 yards and no touchdowns while throwing one interception, fumbling once and getting sacked twice.

Dobbs was solid with his legs, rushing seven times for 47 yards in the 26-9 loss to LA.

TE/FB Princeton Fant – Dallas Cowboys

On the practice squad.

QB Hendon Hooker – Detroit Lions

Inactive as he remains on the NFI list still rehabbing his ACL injury.

WR Jalin Hyatt – New York Giants

Saw a career-high four targets and caught three of them for 21 yards. Hyatt also played a career high 73 percent of offensive snaps.

Hyatt was targeted deep on what would’ve been a crucial play for the Giants at the time, further showing his increased involvement in the New York offense.

S Theo Jackson – Minnesota Vikings

Recorded one tackle and played five percent of defensive snaps and 69 percent of special teams snaps in Minnesota’s 19-13 win over Chicago.

WR Jauan Jennings – San Francisco 49ers

Played a season-high 53 percent of offensive snaps due to Deebo Samuel’s shoulder injury he sustained in the first half of San Francisco’s 19-17 road loss to the Browns.

With his snaps, Jennings caught two of four targets for 26 yards.

LB Alexander Johnson – Miami Dolphins

On the practice squad.

FB Jakob Johnson – Las Vegas Raiders

Did not log a stat but played 24 percent of offensive snaps and 40 percent of special teams snaps in the Raiders’ 21-17 win over his old team, the New England Patriots.

WR/PR Velus Jones Jr. – Chicago Bears

Caught his lone target for five yards and logged two rush attempts for 15 yards in Chicago’s six-point loss to division rival Minnesota. The VFL also returned three kicks for 90 yards, the first time he’s been utilized as a kick returner all season.

Jones Jr. also played a season-high 11 percent of offensive snaps and 62 percent of special teams snaps.

RB Alvin Kamara – New Orleans Saints

Kamara continued to be heavily involved in the Saints’ offense, catching seven of eight targets for 36 yards and logged 19 carries for 68 yards in New Orleans’ 20-13 loss to the Texans.

Kamara played 80 percent of offensive snaps in the loss.

OL Cade Mays – Carolina Panthers

Started at left guard for the Panthers for the second time this season and played 100 percent of offensive snaps for the first time this season. Also played 13 percent of special teams snaps.

CB Emmanuel Moseley – Detroit Lions

OUT FOR THE SEASON

WR Joshua Palmer – Los Angeles Chargers

Saw heavy involvement as a starting WR for the Chargers on Monday Night Football against the Cowboys, playing a season-high 97 percent of offensive snaps.

Palmer caught four of seven targets for 60 yards in L.A.’s 20-17 loss to Dallas.

RB Cordarrelle Patterson – Atlanta Falcons

Caught his only target for six yards and logged one rushing attempt for zero yards in Atlanta’s 24-16 loss to Washington.

Patterson played 12 percent of offensive snaps and 21 percent of special teams snaps.

DE Kyle Phillips – New Orleans Saints

On the practice squad.

LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin – Detroit Lions

Reeves-Maybin recorded one special teams tackle in the Lions’ 20-6 win over the Buccaneers. The VFL did not play a defensive snap but played 76 percent of special teams snaps.

OG Trey Smith – Kansas City Chiefs

Played 100 percent of offensive snaps at starting right guard and 29 percent of special teams snaps in the Chiefs’ 19-8 win over the Broncos on Thursday Night Football.

CB Cameron Sutton – Detroit Lions

Tallied four tackles, three solo, one pass deflection, and played 100 percent of defensive snaps as a starting cornerback for the Lions in their two-score win over Tampa Bay.

CB Alontae Taylor – New Orleans Saints

Recorded three tackles, all solo, and played 60 percent of defensive snaps and 19 percent of special teams snaps as a starting corner for the Saints in their loss to Houston.

DE Darrell Taylor – Seattle Seahawks

Made one tackle and played 44 percent of defensive snaps and 13 percent of special teams snaps in Seattle’s 17-13 loss to the Bengals.

WR Cedric Tillman – Cleveland Browns

Was inactive in the Browns’ win over the 49ers due to a hip injury. Expected back next week.

DL Shy Tuttle – Carolina Panthers

Recorded three tackles, all solo, and an impressive three pass deflections in Carolina’s 42-21 loss to the Dolphins and played 52 percent of defensive snaps while also playing 20 percent of special teams snaps.

OT Darnell Wright – Chicago Bears

Played every offensive snap as the starting right tackle in Chicago’s loss to the Vikings. Also played 12 percent of special teams snaps.

DT Kendal Vickers – Buffalo Bills

On the practice squad.

DE Byron Young – Los Angeles Rams

Young recored six total tackles, three solo, two QB hits, and played 86 percent of defensive snaps as a starting defensive end in the Rams’ win over Arizona.

Young did not play a special teams snap.
