Los Angeles Lakers vs Denver Nuggets Odds, Preview, and Picks

Game preview

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers are in Denver to face the Nuggets on opening night. The Lakers are looking for revenge, as they were swept by the Nuggets in last year’s Western Conference Finals. Los Angeles has added some depth to this season’s roster, as Gabe Vincent, Jaxson Hayes and Taurean Prince headline the newcomers. In addition, D’Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves are both back, and figure to once again complement superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

On the other side, the Nuggets are looking to avoid an NBA Finals hangover after winning it all last season. Denver’s core has remained the same with Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr and Aaron Gordon leading the way. Denver has seen some key players leave in the offseason, as Bruce Brown, Thomas Bryant and Jeff Green are all gone. But with their top four scorers from a season ago all back and ready to roll, it’s hard to picture Denver not being one of the top teams in the NBA again this season.

Moneyline, spread, and over/under betting odds

Oddsmakers are giving the edge to the reigning NBA champs, as the Nuggets are listed as 4.5-point favorites on most sports betting platforms. When it comes to the moneyline, Denver has odds of -205, while Los Angeles has odds of +170. The total, or over/under, is listed at 228.

Picks

While the Nuggets swept the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals last year, all four games were close. The average margin of victory in the four game series was four points. The Lakers have revenge on their minds, while Denver could start off slow after the banner-raising ceremony. Look for Los Angeles to give Denver all they can handle. Consider taking the Lakers +4.5.

Going along with that bet, a player prop that makes some sense is Anthony Davis Over 23.5 points at -120 odds on DraftKings. Davis averaged 26.8 points per game against Denver in the Western Conference Finals, and he appears to be healthy heading into this new campaign. Davis has typically played well against Denver in his career, averaging 24.0 points per game in 28 contests against the Nuggets. If the Lakers want to pull off the small upset, Davis figures to be involved early and often. His point total is listed at 23.5 on DraftKings, and the over is worth a look.

Phoenix Suns vs Golden State Warriors Odds, Preview, and Picks

Game preview

The second game of the evening features another Western Conference showdown as the Suns take on the Warriors. There are many storylines to follow in this matchup. Most notably, Kevin Durant will be squaring off against his former team. In addition, Bradley Beal and Chris Paul will be making their debuts for their new teams. No matter how you slice it, this is a star-studded matchup that is must-watch TV for any basketball fan.

Phoenix’s Big 3 of Durant, Beal, and Devin Booker will be interesting to watch. Given the elite talent level of all three, expectations are high. That being said, it could take some time for chemistry to build. On the other side, Golden State’s Big 3 of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green have been together for years. Add in Chris Paul, and this offense could be scary.

Moneyline, spread, and over/under betting odds

Oddsmakers are expecting a close game. The game odds are essentially listed as a pick ’em, with the Warriors listed as 1-point favorites. Golden State has moneyline odds of -115, while Phoenix is listed with odds of -105 on the moneyline. Oddsmakers are also expecting a high-scoring affair, as the total is listed at 232.5.

Picks

It’s hard to bet against the Warriors at home. Last season, Golden State posted an impressive record of 33-8 on their home court. Conversely, they were 11-30 on the road. It’s also worth noting that Warriors coach Steve Kerr is 24-10 against the Suns in his head coaching career. Consider backing the Warriors -1.

As previously mentioned, it may take some time for Phoenix’s offense to get into a rhythm. Durant, Beal, and Booker played minimal minutes together in the preseason, and trying to keep up with Curry and company could be a challenge. In addition, nobody knows Durant’s tendencies better than the Warriors, so they could potentially limit him to a low point total. Consider taking the Suns team total Under 116.5 points.
