MLB World Series Game 1 Odds, Preview, and Picks

After barely getting into the playoffs, the Diamondbacks shocked everyone and won the National League pennant. They are playing in their first World Series since 2001, and they will hand the ball to Zac Gallen in Game 1. Gallen won 17 games and posted an ERA of 3.47 in the regular season, but he has struggled a bit in the playoffs. In four postseason starts, Gallen has allowed 24 hits and nine walks in 22.1 IP en route to posting a 5.24 ERA. He is capable of much better, and he should take the mound with confidence. The last time he saw the Rangers, he allowed just one run and struck out 11 over 6 innings.

On the other side, the Rangers posted a regular season record of 90-72 and took down in-state rival Houston in the ALCS to advance to their first World Series since 2011. They will hand the ball to veteran right-hander Nathan Eovaldi in Game 1. Eovaldi has 69 career postseason innings under his belt, and he has posted an impressive 2.87 ERA in that span. The Diamondbacks lineup has limited postseason experience, so look for Eovaldi to attack the Arizona hitters early on.

One thing to keep an eye on in Game 1 and throughout the series will be Arizona on the base paths. Arizona’s 166 stolen bases in the regular season was second in the league, and their 86% stolen base success rate was the best in baseball. However, they attempted just one steal in Games 1-5 in the NLCS against Philadelphia. Then in Games 6 and 7, Arizona went a perfect 8-for-8 on stolen base attempts. It will be interesting to see how often Arizona manager Torey Lovullo puts his runners in motion.

Moneyline, run line, and over/under betting odds

You can bet on Game 1 of the World Series on a variety of sports betting apps. These platforms have hundreds of different wagers available, so there is truly something for everyone.

Oddsmakers are favoring the Rangers in Game 1, as they have moneyline odds of -166. That means you would have to wager $166 to win $100 on a Rangers victory. On the other hand, the Diamondbacks are +140 on the moneyline. In this case, a $100 wager would win you $140 if Arizona wins. When it comes to the run line, Texas is -1.5 with +124 odds, while Arizona is +1.5 with odds of -148. The total, or over/under, is listed at 8. Keep in mind that these odds are subject to change up until first pitch.

Picks

Zac Gallen vs Nathan Eovaldi is a quality pitching matchup between two veteran right-handers. Neither Gallen nor Eovaldi should be afraid of the bright lights. Eovaldi has been great so far in the postseason, posting an ERA of 2.42 in four starts. Gallen’s postseason numbers aren’t as flashy, but he is more than capable of getting on track. As previously mentioned, he struck out 11 Rangers over six innings the last time he saw them. Look for both pitchers to be on their game early on. It may take two or three times through the order for both offenses to get going, and for that reason, consider taking Under 4.5 total runs in the first 5 innings. As of this writing, you can find this bet at -118 odds on FanDuel.

Arizona 2B Ketel Marte is on a tear. He has recorded at least one hit in all 12 postseason games that he’s played in, hitting .358 with a .986 OPS in that span. The guy is absolutely locked in right now. It’s also worth noting that he hits in the leadoff spot for Arizona, meaning he has a chance to get four or five at-bats. Sometimes you just have to go with the hot hand. Consider taking Ketel Marte Over 1.5 total bases.
