Georgia vs Tennessee Preview

As the No. 1 team in the country, it is no surprise that professional oddsmakers are favoring the Bulldogs in this matchup. Georgia is listed as 10.5-point favorites with moneyline odds of -410 on most sports betting platforms. On the other side, Tennessee has odds of +320 on the moneyline as 10.5-point underdogs. The total, or over/under, is listed at 59.5 points. Keep in mind that these odds and lines can vary from sportsbook to sportsbook. In addition, odds are subject to change up until kick-off on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 ET.

Georgia has won eight of the last 10 meetings against Tennessee, including the last six in a row. The last win for Tennessee in this series came back in 2016.

Georgia Bulldogs: Looking to make history

The Georgia Bulldogs are on a historic run. They have won back-to-back national championships, and have won a school-record 27 consecutive games since the end of the 2021 season. A win in Knoxville on Saturday would move Georgia into a tie with Alabama for the longest winning streak in SEC history. The Bulldogs are playing their best football right now, and they roll into Knoxville with plenty of confidence.

QB Carson Beck has gotten better seemingly every week, and he is coming off a solid performance against Ole Miss in which he completed 18 of 25 passes for 306 yards and two touchdowns. It was his fifth 300+ yard game of the season. On the year, Beck has completed an impressive 72.2% of his passes to go along with 18 touchdowns and five interceptions. Beck was pleased to have his top target back last week, as TE Brock Bowers returned after a two game absence to tend to a lower body injury. Bowers caught all three of his targets for 34 yards and a touchdown. With another week to get healthy, look for Bowers to be more involved in the passing game in this one.

Georgia’s spot in the SEC title game is already secured, but coach Kirby Smart will have his guys ready to go. The Bulldogs do not want to suffer any letdowns before the SEC title game in order to keep their momentum rolling. The Bulldogs haven’t looked as sharp on the road as they have at home this season, so the home crowd at Neyland Stadium has the potential to make things interesting. But overall, a lot would have to go wrong for the Bulldogs to fall short in this matchup.

Tennessee Volunteers: Aiming for 15 straight home wins

The Tennessee Volunteers are coming off a disappointing loss to Missouri last week. The Vols were down 13-7 at halftime before getting outscored 23-0 in the second half. Nothing could go right for the offense, and the Vols gave up 530 yards of total offense to the Tigers. As tough as that game was, the good news is that the Vols return home to Neyland Stadium where they have won 14 straight games.

In the first two seasons under head coach Josh Heupel, Tennessee has been known for its air-raid offense. But things have changed this year, as the Vols put a heavy emphasis on the run game. In fact, Tennessee is the No. 1 rushing offense in the SEC, averaging 223.9 yards per game on the ground. They rely on a variety of different rushers, which helps keep defenses on their toes. However, Georgia possesses an elite rushing defense that ranks 2nd in the SEC by only allowing 107.9 rushing yards per game to their opponents.

Last week, Missouri was the far more physically dominating team on the field. If Tennessee couldn’t keep up with Missouri’s physicality, it could be a long day going up against the physicality of Georgia. In turn, Tennessee could have some problems running the ball, which could put QB Joe Milton in a tough spot. Milton has been solid at times this season, but the consistency has not been there.

Georgia vs Tennessee Prediction

Georgia has won six straight matchups in this series, and in those games Tennessee has scored more than 20 points just once, being held to a measly 12.8 points per game in that stretch. If the Vols want a chance at pulling the upset, the defense is going to have to step up. The good news for Tennessee is that Georgia’s offense has gotten off to slow starts on the road this season. Even if Georgia jumps out to a big lead, they could put it on cruise control knowing that their spot in the SEC title game is already secured. All things considered, take a look at betting the Under 59.5 in this SEC matchup. As of this writing, you can find this bet at -112 odds on DraftKings.
