Tennessee football has jumped back into the AP Top 25 rankings following the events of conference championship weekend.

Tennessee, who previously landed as the first team on the outside looking in, now ranks at No. 25 in the poll that was released on Sunday morning. Tennessee was previously ranked at No. 25 in the AP rankings two weeks ago in Week 13.

The Vols finished the season with an overall record of 8-4 on the year with a 4-4 record in conference play. Tennessee found five wins in their first six games with a loss to Florida in Gainesville sandwiched in the middle. Tennessee fell to Alabama in Tuscaloosa but came back and defeated Kentucky on the road the following week. The Vols closed the season with losses to Missouri and Georgia with wins against UConn and Vanderbilt.

Tennessee is the sixth-highest and final team from the SEC in this week’s rankings behind No. 5 Alabama, No. 6 Georgia, No. 9 Missouri, No. 11 Ole Miss, and No. 13 LSU. Kentucky was the final team to receive votes with four.

Tennessee’s AP Poll ranking comes just hours before the Vols will find out the bowl destination. Stay tuned to Rocky Top Insider on Sunday afternoon to see which bowl game Tennessee will be heading to this winter.

  1. To put a one lost team into playoff and leave out a 13 and 0. Sounds like Alabama has paid off again. Think everyone is sick of Alabama and them always getting their way.
