Tennessee offensive tackle Gerald Mincey announced his intentions to return for his redshirt senior season on Monday night. Mincey shared in a X post announcing an agreement with the Volunteer Club— part of the NIL collective that works with the University of Tennessee.

Mincey transferred to Tennessee from Florida ahead of the 2022 season and has been a key part of the Vols’ offensive line since.

The 6-foot-6, 337-pound offensive tackle played in 11 games and started six games at right tackle for Tennessee in 2023. He split playing time with Jeremiah Crawford at right tackle, particularly early in the season, before winning the job and taking over as the full time starter against South Carolina.

Mincey played only on special teams in Tennessee’s loss at Florida after being cited for simple possession by UTPD that week. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida native also missed the vast majority of the Georgia game with an injury.

In 2022, Mincey split playing time Crawford at left tackle throughout the course of the season as Darnell Wright held down the right side of the offensive line. When Miami transfer John Campbell Jr. arrived on Tennessee’s campus, the pair slid over to the right side of the offensive line.

Mincey earned a 60.6 PFF grade in 510 snaps in 2023 after earning a 56.2 PFF grade in 457 snaps during the 2022 season.

The former transfer is the second Tennessee offensive tackle to announce his intentions to return to Knoxville for another season. Campbell previously announced his intentions to return last week. With the duo returning, the bookend of the Vols’ offensive line is all but set for next season.

However, there are still questions about what the interior of the offensive line will look like. Ollie Lane is out of eligibility but Cooper Mays and Javontez Spraggins both have the ability to return to Tennessee for their super senior seasons.

Mays and Spraggins have started beside each other at center and right guard for the last two seasons and neither went through Senior Day festivities in the Vols’ win over Vanderbilt.
