Tennessee offensive tackle Gerald Mincey was cited for simple possession on Thursday, Sept. 14 right on the edge of Tennessee’s campus in Knoxville, UT Police’s 60-day crime log shows.

The citation occurred on Cumberland Avenue at Henley Street according to the log.

Mincey made the trip to Florida for Tennessee’s SEC opener but did not on offense but was on field goal units as the Vols fell 29-16 in Gainesville. The right tackle has played off-and-on since transferring to Tennessee from Florida ahead of the 2022 season. Mincey split snaps with Jeremiah Crawford at left tackle a season ago and split time with Crawford at right tackle the first two games of Tennessee’s season.

Crawford was listed as Tennessee’s starting right tackle on its week three depth chart but Mincey was expected to continue splitting reps with Crawford. Mincey was dressed out for the game and played on field goal units but played no offensive snaps.

“Mincey, we just made a decision to go with JJ (Crawford) tonight,” Heupel said about Mincey’s absence following the loss.

Tennessee looks to bounce back from its first loss of the season when it hosts UTSA at Neyland Stadium. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. ET with the SEC Network broadcasting the game.

  1. I would love to see them swap Mincey back to LT and Campbell to RT. Where Milton is much better when he throws left. He wouldn’t have to worry about pressure getting to his throwing arm with the best pass pro OT at RT. Just like when Darnell was at RT. It would also open up better lanes to the left especially for Milton to run. But pull Spraggins to the left and Wright and company would eat more too imo. Wish they’d try that in lesser games to see.

  2. The entire team has lauded like they are stoned since the season began lol!
They will be lucky to win 3 games.
