Former Florida running back Trevor Etienne hit the transfer portal this month but will be staying on the Vols’ 2024 schedule, despite not being with the Gators.

According to a report from On3 Sports’ Hayes Fawcett on Sunday morning, Etienne will be transferring to the Georgia Bulldogs. Etienne is the top-ranked running back in On3’s portal rankings and the eighth-ranked portal player overall.

Etienne and the Bulldogs will host Tennessee on Saturday, Nov. 16, in Athens, Georgia. The former Florida running back will play his old team on Nov. 2 as part of the Georgia-Florida rivalry in Jacksonville.

Etienne entered the portal on December 7.

The brother of NFL star Travis Etienne was a force for the Gators in each of his first two seasons. Etienne led the Gators in touchdowns, yards per carry, and yards per game during the 2023 season, including a monster game in Gainesville against Tennessee.

Etienne had a career-high 23 carries against Tennessee for a career-high 172 yards and one touchdown.

The 5-foot-9 sophomore had a rocky start to his college career – not in terms of statistics or touchdowns but in terms of overall team wins and losses. Florida has gone 11-14 during Etienne’s two years under head coach Billy Napier.

Etienne’s entry into the transfer portal and subsequent emergence at rival Georgia is another sour note in the composition of Florida’s tumultuous December. The Gators have been losing recruits and rostered players since the end of the season as many wonder where the directionless Gators turn to next.

Tennessee has lost 10 players to the transfer portal this year while bringing in four players: Notre Dame tight end Holden Staes, Oregon State corner Jermod McCoy, MTSU safety Jakobe Thomas, and Tulane receiver Chris Brazzell Jr.
