Former Tennessee quarterback Kaidon Salter plans to reenter the transfer portal after a strong redshirt sophomore season at Liberty, On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported on Tuesday evening.

*Update: Kaidon Salter withdrew his name from the transfer portal on Friday

Salter committed to Jeremy Pruitt and his staff ahead of his senior year of high school and early enrolled at Tennessee in January 2021 shortly before the school terminated Pruitt. The former four-star recruit stuck it out after Danny White tabbed Josh Heupel as the Vols’ newest head coach.

But shortly into Salter’s first spring practice at Tennessee, Heupel suspended the freshman for an off the field incident. Tennessee reinserted Salter to the team following spring practice but dismissed the talented quarterback after another off the field incident in June.

Salter transferred to play for now-Auburn coach Hugh Freeze. The former four-star recruit redshirted his freshman season before playing in eight games and starting off-and-on during the 2022 season.

But the 6-foot-1, 200-pound quarterback stepped into the full time starting role this season and performed well in Liberty’s 13-1 season that resulted in a Cotton Bowl loss against Oregon.

Salter completed 177-of-290 passes for 2,876 yards, 32 touchdowns and six interceptions. The Cedar Hill, Texas native was also extremely dynamic, rushing for 1,089 yards and 12 touchdowns. There have been no early reports of teams linked to Salter but Auburn would be an obvious candidates.
