Tennessee Football Predicted To Land Elite Offensive Tackle Transfer

Tennessee football has been pursuing LSU offensive tackle transfer Lance Heard since the highly touted underclassmen entered the transfer portal. And the Vols could be closing in on landing Heard’s services.

247sports’ Matt Zenitz put in a crystal ball prediction for Tennessee to land Heard on Thursday afternoon.

“The expectation is that former LSU five-star offensive tackle Lance Heard is going to transfer to Tennessee,” Zenitz said in a X post.

Heard ranks as a four-star and is the No. 18 player and No. 3 offensive tackle in the transfer portal according to the 247sports transfer rankings. The 6-foot-6, 340-pound offensive lineman would be Tennessee’s seventh and highest rated addition in the transfer portal.

The freshman offensive tackle played 195 snaps in five games for LSU last season, earning a 71.4 PFF grade. Heard played right tackle as a freshman at LSU but will likely move to left tackle in Knoxville. Tennessee returning starting left tackle John Campbell Jr. posted a video working at right tackle earlier this week.

Heard’s play in his freshman season at LSU was good enough for him to land on the Freshman All-SEC team during the 2023 season. The highly touted transfer has a family tie at Tennessee with his cousin Jeremias Heard being an incoming freshman lineman though it’s unclear which side of the line of scrimmage he’ll play on.

Tennessee returns Campbell and backup offensive tackle Dayne Davis from last season but lost Jeremiah Crawford (graduation) and Gerald Mincey (transfer portal). Those losses make it incredibly important that Tennessee lands a reliable offensive tackle in the portal.
